Components of the D3 system

There are three additional components to the D3 system: the Presence Detection System (PDS), the Near Time Messaging System (NTMS), and the Client.

The PDS and NTMS are interfaces that use an open standard API for use in the development of other applications by third-party providers. These interfaces provide the platform for Internet application providers to access each of their members or customers for the purpose of initiating or responding to communications or transaction requests.

The Client, resident on each local node, provides State and IP connectivity information to the D3 system and acts as a distributed transaction coordinator for the D3 system. All of the services accessed by the client use a single Unique Digital Identifier (UDI). This UDI is in place of or acts as a mask for each provider's application's unique member ID. The D3 system and its parts were developed to easily change the UDI standard. Therefore, if in the future an industry standard UDI is established, the D3 system can easily be reconfigured to the designated standard or an alternative standard. A telephone number, social security number or other optio. Even an e-mail address could be adopted as marketing plans warrant.
